Tantric Gods make a comeback after Kantara

Jio Hotstar has dropped the steaming teaser of its upcoming webseries, Om Kali Jai Kali, directed by Ramu Chellappa, starring Actor Vemal as a Kaliyattam Dancer. The teaser is intense with an immense blood splatter as this is JioHotstar's rare A-rated OTT endeavour.

The teaser shows a manic Actor Vemal dressed in a saree, wearing a crown and metal fangs, carrying the spirit of Goddess Kali. The series is seasoned with supporting artists like Pavani Reddy, Ganja Karuppu, GM Kumar, Douglas Kumaramoorthy, Vijay TV Pugazh, Vaazhai fame Dhivya Duraisamy and debutants from Bigg Boss Tamil Season 6 - Queency and Shivin Ganesan.

The characters are embroiled in a bloodbath with the theme likely set in human sacrifice.

Kantara opened the gateway for a genre that was glorified in the 80s' - Religion and Spirituality. As Kantara showed the world what Bhoota Kola looks like, Om Kali Jai Kali is a village drama centred around Kulasai Mutharamman's tantric rituals known as Mayana Kollai where Goddess Kali possesses her devotees and uses them as vessels to convey her divine rulings.

The Kulasai Mutharamman temple located in the district of Thoothukudi, is flocked by devotees every year during Dussehra to see Goddess Kaali's human embodiments dance away in ecstasy.

Om Kali Jai Kali is a much-awaited attempt to throw light on this rich religious practice founded in ancient legends.

Actor Vemal, who raised the bar of Tamil Webseries with Vilangu on Zee5, has unleashed his potential as an actor in the glimpses we have seen of Om Kali Jai Kali.

The series is scheduled for release in March 2025.
