Vidamuyarchi, starring Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan, is a detour from the commercial cinema route. The movie starts with beautiful visuals of Ajith and Trisha in Azerbaijan in their early stages of relationship with a dark contrast to the present state of their strained marriage. Though the actors gave it their all to portray themselves as lovesick puppies in the flashback portions, the emotions barely touched the audience as they were restless for the action to begin.

This was the couple's one last poetic ride into the sunset before their marriage ends. It was a refined start as it slowly settled that Vidamuyarchi was not a run-of-the-mill action film. A forlorn Ajith, trying to find his lost wife in the middle of nowhere kept the tempo up. The introduction of the Antagonists, Regina Cassandra and Arjun reminded us of another Star Crossed Couple - Joker and Harley Quinn.

At a point of time, Arjun and Regina Cassandra drew our attention more than Ajith and Trisha as a relationship born in an asylum was a fresh brew. As much as Regina was loud and sly, Arjun picked up a quiet demeanour and they juxtaposed deadly on screen. As the story was picking up, the audience were amped to know why Trisha was kidnapped, how the cops played a part in all of it and how a whole village teamed up to execute this ploy.

The gaping holes were left untouched as the motive was conveyed in a 2-minute voiceover at the end of the movie.

The movie gave us an insight into Ajith as a person as the film is devoid of Star Power theatrics. Keeping away from media and pursuing a bloodthirsty passion in Motor Racing while being one of the most bankable actor in Tamil Cinema, Ajith has proved time and again that he does not fit into the traditional mould of a Kollywood Star on road to fame and money.

There are no lengthy monologues, no heavy punches, no power packed screaming contests with cars flying behind. The movie is about a man who loses it all to save his estranged wife. There is no real reason for Ajith to choose this film unless the movie comes with a solid message. And there is one.

The film trudges on with Arjun and Regina playing Cat and Mouse with Ajith as the audience endured him beaten bloody and deserted on the road multiple times. The action sequence in the car was worth the wait and Azerbaijan was a scenic ride. Though it is easy to bury the motive of a mentally disturbed patient under the pretext of mindless cruelty, the reason why Arjun and Regina chose Ajith as their prey was a blinding miss in the screenplay.

Director Magizh Thirumeni mentioned that the bigger takeaway from Vidamuyarchi was swallowed on the edit table. A woman having the right to break free from a man anytime if her heart was in it, was that big, bold message. Ajith Kumar, previously seen in Pink's Remake, Nerkonda Paarvai touched a similar subject on questioning the society adopting moral policing as a weapon to criminalise women's independence. The fearless dialogues made the movie a stand-out Women Empowerment film in Tamil Cinema.

Though it is unclear if Vidamuyarchi's message would have reached the audience, it would have justified the effort behind making this film with a loud message in the end instead of the audience leaving the theatre wondering how they felt about the movie.
