Chennai hit the national headlines when India's biggest international druglord was found in within the confines of DMK camp. A R Jaffer Sadiq, a DMK party member, a film producer and a hotelier, absconded 2 days before the release of his film Mangai on March 1st 2024 as news leaked of his impending arrest.

Narcotics Control Bureau took over the investigation and Jaffer Sadiq was found and arrested on June 26th 2024. With the investigations kept under the wraps for over a year, Jaffer has been granted bail on a subsequent money laundering case in April 2025. Though, he was arrested for smuggling drugs across overseas, the verdict re-phrased the cause of the arrest to a money-landering fraud.
The grounds on which an international criminal has been granted bail is still unclear.

Jaffer Sadiq did not lay low post his release from Tihar Jail as he ticks the first task off his list by releasing his completed Tamil project - Indra featuring Taramani fame Vasanth Kumar.
His earlier film starring Dushyanth and Kayal Anandhi fell to the NCB sword as drug money was re-invested in this production venture as per his statement submitted at the time of his arrest.
To rebrand himself as a Film Producer, Jaffer Sadiq has risen his production banner, JSM Pictures and renamed it to JSM Movie Productions after his dark sabbatical. He has been actively promoting his film along with the cast and crew at all promotional events.
