After 8 seasons of Bigg Boss Tamil with over 200 contestants competing for the throne, there are just three contesting who made it big in the media industry - Harish Kalyan, Kavin and Asal Kolaar.

Is Bigg Boss's promise of a red carpet entry into the film industry a complete farce?

Arav, the Winner of Bigg Boss Tamil's first season had 3 releases over the span of 8 years as the main lead and the films lasted a total of 15 days in theatres. After 7 long years, he will be making his big launch alongside Ajith Kumar in Vidamuyarchu as a Supporting Artist.

Mahat who mentioned that he has been receiving calls from Production Houses despite a Red Card exit was only seen on big screen for 10 minutes along with Simbu in Sundar C's Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven and a Bollywood Film titled Double XL that became fell to pieces in Box Office.

Riythvika, the Winner of Bigg Boss Season 2, mentioned in an interview that she has acted in 6 films but none saw the light of the day.

After facing all the trials and tribulations of the show, 50% of the contestants land the role of forgetful side artists in big films and are pushed back to the wall once again, after the next line-up of contestants emerge from the next season.

Aari Arjunan, the Winner of Bigg Boss Season 4, has become an Anchor of a Television Show in the lines of Neeya Naana in Zee Tamizh after waiting 4 years for a Big Screen Comeback post his launch as a lead in Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathiley in 2012.

Azeem, the most controversial Winner of Bigg Boss, is rumoured to have moved to the UAE after 2 years of media sabbatical.

Bigg Boss has been the platform of dreams for aspiring actors, though the show's success quotient is 1% in building a successful career in the film industry.

It's not all hailstorm and slush as few ex-contestants have peaked their heads like Tharshan and Losliya's debut with K.S. Ravikunar's Google Kuttappa and their independent films under big banners, Naadu and Mr Housekeeping along with Balaji Murugadoss's Fire and Rio's Jo.

The immediate success and fame that comes after the show is a beautiful mirage that lasts only for 15 days. The contestants, after trying their luck in the media industry, retreat to other sources of income by becoming a "Celebrity Influencer" on Instagram. Attending events and posting reels with face care products have become the template life of the artists post the show.

Keeping this in mind, is Bigg Boss's quick jump into the media industry a worthwhile bargain to endure the humiliations and public scrutiny that comes along with the show ?
