Why Internet has ( once again ) cancelled Vijay Devarakonda? -

Vijay Devarakonda began his career by hitting the road running with his nation-wide hit, Arjun Reddy, where he was seen playing a toxic, male chauvinist miserably in love with his college sweetheart. Though the movie struck Box Office gold, the debate about the movie's intent and messaging continues to be a topic of discussion among movie goers.
Devarakonda has made 10+ films in the meantime with no massive hits to his credit except Geetha Govindham - the movie set in which Rashmika and Vijay met. Vijay Devarakonda became known for his simplicity, frivolous filter-free talks, nonchalant body language and his over the top confidence. Though his movies failed to create an impact in the box office, the spotlight shined on the star again when the internet sniffed his alleged relationship with his co-star, Rashmika Mandanna.

The couple got married in February 2026 and they became "another" celebrity couple the paparazzi loved. When all was well in house of Devarakonda, the couple were seen in the opening episode of the Finale series of Koffee with Karan. This show has been infamous for brewing PR nightmares for all Bollywood actors who paid Karan a visit and the newly-weds were not spared from the debacle. As Rashmika was narrating her proposal story all we heard was Vijay Devarakonda asking his girlfriend to ask him a 100 times for his hand.
Until then, Vijay Devarakonda's cavalier attitude was a source of amusement. This proposal has raised a widespread unrest among film audience as this real-life couple reminded them of Vijay's hit film Arjun Reddy. The couple and their love story eerily resemble this work of fiction and the internet is visibly fuming. Rashmika has also fallen to the sword as people have labeled as a naive cheerleader eager to date a hockey player.

Though Karan Johar did not play a catalyst to this confession, the host is known for making his stars loosen up and spill secrets on his couch. This new controversy has led Rashmika to posting a 5-page story justifying their love and Vijay Devarakonda doing the opposite by slamming the door and walking out on the audience like an angry, young teenager. The happy couple have also filed a cyber case on trollers who are manipulating interview footages to project Vijay Devarakonda in a bad light.
An actor's public persona is deliberately constructed by his public image, the roles played on-screen, Instagram posts, interviews and PR activities. Vijay Devarakonda has consistently swam against this tide of building a relatable public image and resorted to presenting himself as a "grey" character. However, Vijay might reconsider this risky strategy as the public have announced they will celebrate a problematic character only on silver screens and not in real life.
